Reunion is an exhibition of works that re-unites 17 artists who have a mutual connection to Pratt Graphics Center - a unique printmaking workshop founded as an extension of Pratt Institute. The Center opened in 1956, and was located at various sites in Manhattan, including 831 Broadway at 13th Street, and the landmark Phoenix School of Design at 30th and Lexington Avenue. A combination workshop and gallery, the Center also had a publishing arm, which included the journal Artist's Proof, edited by Fritz Eichenberg and Andrew Stasik.
Pratt Graphics Center offered students the opportunity to develop their craft and exchange ideas while working side-by-side with well-known printmakers from around the world. Exposed to a variety of printmaking exhibitions organized by the Center, the students also had the opportunity to participate in the many traveling shows Pratt Graphics Center spearheaded. As workshop doors were kept open from 10 am to 10 pm, five days a week, artists from Guatemala, Korea and Japan formed deep working relationships with artists from Spain, Finland, and Germany - as well as printmakers from Iowa, California, and Brooklyn. While Pratt Graphics Center closed in 1986, many of these working relationships have grown and flourished over the ensuing years, and remain strong today. Now, 17 of those involved, either as students, teachers or staff, have come together to showcase their artworks, created in various media.
